Installing Your Sentinel Cellspot

Sentinel Cellspot™ signal extenders are not difficult to install, but they do require mounting an antenna (attic or roof location) and running coaxial cable.

Please see below for instructions on installing a Sentinel Cellspot™ unit.

Basic Installation Instructions

  1. Confirm that your phone operates in either the PCS (1900MHz) band or the Cellular (800MHz) band by plugging your YX500 Series unit to the power supply and plugging the power supply into the AC outlet. You do not need to connect any antennas to the main unit at this point. Make a cell phone call near the unit. If the signal light blinks, you have the correct unit for your phone. If the signal light does not blink when you make you call, this unit will not work with your cell phone.

  2. Check your signal strength on your cell phone. A signal strength of at least 1 bar on your cell phone is necessary outside. If you do not have a signal outside, your coverage cannot be improved inside.

  3. Place the base unit in the room you need the most improvement of your cell phone signal. For multiple rooms, select a central location.

  4. Attach the coaxial cable to the antenna.

  5. Attach the antenna at the highest point possible inside an attic location. A vertical separation of 15' between the unit and the antenna is recommended.   Additional equipment is required for non-attic installations.

  6. Run the coaxial cable down to the base unit.

  7. Attach the coaxial cable to the base unit.

  8. Attach the small inside antenna to the base unit.

  9. Plug the base unit into an AC outlet.
  10. You have now completed the installation and Sentinel Cellspot™ unit is ready for use.
The YX500 Series kit includes an Omni directional indoor antenna that can be adjusted to provide optimal coverage.

To provide the best coverage horizontally in all directions, adjust the antenna so that it is vertical.

This optimal coverage pattern is shown above in light green color

To modify the coverage pattern, adjust the Omni indoor antenna away from the vertical position as shown above.

This example shows the base unit and antenna mounted on the outer wall of the building, allowing for coverage area on the floor above.

The YX024 is an optional indoor directional antenna used to provide a more focused coverage area in the direction of your choice. Simply point the directional antenna toward the direction you want to cover.

Unlike the Omni directional antenna, the YX024 directional antenna has a minimal coverage pattern on the backside of the antenna.
